I Know Your Works: You Have Kept My Commandments to Persevere

Text: Revelation 3:7-13

THE LORD JESUS CHRIST DESCRIBED

“He who is holy, He who is true, He who has the key of David, He who opens the door and no one shuts”   Revelation 3:7

1. He who is holy (“The Holy One”)

2. He who is true (“The True One”)

3. He who has the key of David

a) Divine Authority
b) Kingly authority and power

4. He who opens the door and no one shuts

a) Authority to open
b) No one can shut that which the Lord opens

COMMENDATION OF THE CHURCH OF PHILADELPHIA

1. Works

I know your works   (Revelation 3:8)

2. An open door

See, I have set before you an open door, and no one can shut it   (Revelation 3:8)

3. Little strength

You have a little strength
a) You have kept My word
b) You did not deny My name   (Revelation 3:8)

4. Keeping the command to persevere

Because you have kept the commandment to persevere   (Revelation 3:10)

SPECIAL BLESSINGS FROM THE LORD

1. The humbling of the enemies of the Church

a) The false Jews (a synagogue of Satan)
b) They will be humbled before the Church
c) They will know that the Church is loved by the Lord   (Revelation 3:9)

2. Special keeping of the Lord

“I will keep you from the hour of trial which shall come upon the whole world, to test those who dwell on the earth”   Revelation 3:10

3. Glorious status of a Pillar in the temple

“He who overcomes I will make him a pillar in the temple of My God,
and he shall go out no more”   Revelation 3:12

4. Name of God

“I will write on him the name of my God and the name of the city of my God, which comes down out of heaven from my God.
And I will write on him My new name.”
a) Name of God
b) Name of the heavenly city
c) Name of the new name of the Lord Jesus

A WORD OF EXHORTATION

I am coming…

1. Hold fast what you have   (Revelation 3:11)

2. That no one take your crown   (Revelation 3:11)

3. In consciousness of the Person and Ministry of the Holy Spirit

He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches
a) The Holy Spirit speaks to the church at Philadelphia
b) And to all other churches
