THE CHOOSING OF JACOB

1. Historical Jacob

a) A heel-grabber   (Genesis 25:24-26)
b) Cheated his twin brother of his birth-right   (Genesis 25:29-34)
c) Deceived his father   (Genesis 27)

2. Yet God chose Jacob

a) He revealed Himself to Jacob   (Genesis 28)
b) He redeemed Jacob from his sinful ways   (Genesis 28-36)
c) He protected Jacob
d) He provided for him
e) God changed Jacob’s name to Israel   (Genesis 35:9-10)

3. The choice of Israel as a nation

a) Historic statement   (Deuteronomy 7:6)
b) Well-described   (Isaiah 41:8-9)
i) My servant
ii) Jacob whom I have chosen
iii) The descendants of Abraham My friend
iv) Called from the farthest regions
v) Called and chosen (re-stated)
vi) God has not cast the nation away

4. Ramifications of being Chosen by God
