But You Are a Chosen Generation

Text: 1 Peter 2:9-10

THE LORD’S CRITIC OF THE “OLD” GENERATION

1. An evil and adulterous generation   (Matthew 12:39)

2. A generation that will become worse and worse   (Matthew 12:45)

3. A faithless and perverse generation   (Matthew 17:17)

4. This generation was arguing and disputing with Jesus.

THE LORD’S COMMENCEMENT OF RAISING UP A “NEW” GENERATION

1. Jesus and the disciples – The first generation

a. Christ raised up disciples.
b. He taught the disciples the Scriptures   (cf. 2 Timothy 3:16)
i. For Doctrine
ii. For Reproof
iii. For Correction
iv. For Instruction in righteousness
v. For Equipping for every good work

2. He chose and appointed them to bear fruit

3. They were the firstfruits of believers

THE COMPREHESION OF THE CHOSEN GENERATION

“But you are a chosen generation…”   1 Peter 2:9

1. A royal priesthood   (1 Peter 2:9)

a. We are spiritual royalty
b. We have the ministry of the priesthood

2. A holy nation   (1 Peter 2:9)

a. We are meant to be holy
b. We are meant to be a collective nation of people

3. His own special people   (1 Peter 2:9)

a. To proclaim the praises of Him   (1 Peter 2:9)
b. To live with a tremendous sense of calling (1 Peter 2:10)
i. Called out of darkness into His marvellous light
ii. Once not a people but now a people
iii. Had not obtained mercy but now obtained mercy

THE CHALLENGE FOR THE CHOSEN GENERATION

1. To fulfil what we are called to be

2. To bear witness to the world

3. To give ourselves to actual service
