SET YOUR HEARTS ON ALL THE WORDS

Text: Deuteronomy 32
15 August 2021

MIGHTY ACTS OF GOD

There were many things that must have been very special to Moses and to the children of Israel.

  1. Seeing the mighty hand of God inflicting plagues on Egypt
  1. Crossing the Red Sea dry-shod
  1. Provision of Manna and Water in the Wilderness journey

But Moses did not place a whole lot of emphasis on these things. They were not unimportant, but these were not things that God would do every day!

THE WORD OF GOD

To Moses, the most vital thing that the children of Israel should hold in high regard was the Word of God!

46 “Set your hearts on all the words which I testify among you today, which you shall command your children to be careful to observe—all the words of this law.

47 For it is not a futile thing for you, because it is your life, and by this word you shall prolong your days in the land which you cross over the Jordan to possess.”     Deuteronomy 32:46-47

  1. Set your hearts

a) The regard for God’s word begins with the heart

b) Where the heart has little regard for God’s word, interest would fade away

c) The heart must be set to have the highest regard for God’s word

  1. Command your children to be careful to observe—all the words of this law

a) Our children need to be taught how to regard God’s word

b) They must learn to observe all the words taught

3. For it isnot a futile thing for you

a) To regard and observe God’s word would not be a futile effort

b) God Himself would bless those who love His word

4. Because it isyour life

a) Our life is prolonged as a sign of God’s blessing

b) Our life would be enriched and enhanced because God’s word is observed

APPROPRIATE RESPONSE

Let us consider how we may make an appropriate response to what we have read in this text.

  1. Let us set our heart to love God’s word
  1. Let us set our heart to live out what we read in His word

May the Lord bless wonderfully!
