THE SONG OF MOSES
Text: Deuteronomy 32
3 January 2021
A MULTI-GIFTED SERVANT
Moses was a multi-gifted servant of God. He fulfilled many roles wonderfully.
Three special roles may be noted.
- Leader
- Teacher
- Intercessor
A SONG WRITER
Moses was also a song writer. One of his songs was found in Deuteronomy 32.
1 “Give ear, O heavens, and I will speak;
And hear, O earth, the words of my mouth.
2 Let my teaching drop as the rain,
My speech distill as the dew,
As raindrops on the tender herb,
And as showers on the grass.
3 For I proclaim the name of the Lord:
Ascribe greatness to our God. Deuteronomy 32:1-3
- His song was valuable for more than just its tune
- He was deeply committed to teaching about the Lord
- It was the LORD who had personally proclaimed His mighty name to him (Exodus 34)
- It was his turn to proclaim God’s name
A WRITER’S HOPE
Every writer has definite hopes for their writing. Moses expressed his hope this way:
- His teaching
a) To be like the rain that is badly needed
b) Without the rain, no crops would grow
- His speech
a) To be as the gentle distilled dew
b) To be like the welcome rain on the tender herb
c) As rain on the grass
- The Content:
a) The LORD
b) His great name!
THE WORD OF GOD
Moses was deeply committed to the teaching of God’s word. He had devoted 40 years of his life mastering the teachings God had given to him. The word of God may indeed be compared to the rain!
OUR CHALLENGE FOR THE NEW YEAR
Let us devote time to read the Lord’s word a little more! May our love for God’s word deepen in the New Year!
