Text: Romans 8; Ecclesiastes 3

THE DIVINE PURPOSE OF GOD
This doctrine did not originate with the Apostle Paul. The concept of God’s Divine purpose may be found in the Old Testament. The following is an example.
To everything there is a season,
A time for every purpose under heaven.
There is a time there for every purpose
And for every work. Ecclesiastes 3:1, 17b
- The Purpose of God
a) It is to be understood with reference to time
b) It is to be further comprehended with reference to its season
- The time element
a) It is related to every purpose
b) To every work of God
THE NEW TESTAMENT UNDERSTANDING
The Apostle added a new perspective to this doctrine of the Divine Purpose.
And we know that all things work together for good
To those who love God, to those who are the called
According to His purpose. Romans 8:28
- And we know
a) Knowledge of God’s word is vital for comprehension
b) Paul acquired a vast amount of deep spiritual knowledge
- All things work together for good
a) To those who love God
b) To those who are called
These are not separate groups of people. Those who love the Lord are those He called. How wonderful to be loved by the Lord and to be called to serve Him too.
CALLED ACCORDING TO HIS PURPOSE
This calling of God and His purpose may be discovered along the following lines:
- There is adequate knowledge of God
- There is understanding of the concept of time and the seasons of life
- There is a genuine love for God
- There is a comprehension of what God has called us to do
Let us seek to grow in our knowledge and our faith in God. Let us seek to fathom the Lord’s calling for our life!
