BLESS THE LORD

Text: Psalm 135

THE BLESSINGS OF THE LORD

As we ponder the doctrine of the Lord’s blessings, we must stand amazed at the things we have discovered about the Lord God!

  1. The greatness of the Lord’s mercy and grace
  1. The promise of blessings which extend for generations
  1. The profundity of the promised blessings
  1. The power behind the promise of blessings
  1. The Covenantal concept which guarantees the giving of the blessings

ON THE OTHER HAND

We discover many appalling but very real weaknesses in man, even if they were patriarchs!

  1. The weakness of the flesh
  1. The inconsistency
  1. The tendency to sin and to fail
  1. The slow appearance and growth of faith
  1. The faltering steps of attempting to walk with the Lord

HOW SHOULD WE RESPOND APPROPRIATELY?

Let us ponder what the Psalmist wrote in Psalm 135.

Praise the LORD!

Praise the name of the LORD;

Praise Him, O you servants of the LORD!

Praise the LORD, for the LORD is good;

Sing praises to His name, for it is pleasant.

Your name, O LORD, endures forever,

Your fame, O LORD, throughout all generations.     Psalm 135:1, 3, 13

  1. Offering praise to God

a) Let us attempt to do this always

b) We cannot praise the Lord often enough

  1. The great name of the Lord

a) Let us ever seek to honour His name

b) Let us thank God that we know His name at all

  1. The LORD is indeed good

a) Wonderfully so

b) Profoundly so too!

May our hearts be filled with awe and gratitude! May praise always be offered to the Lord spontaneously!
