WE DO NOT LOSE HEART

Text: 2 Corinthians 4
31 December 2017

THANK GOD FOR THE MINISTRIES ENTRUSTED TO US

It is God who has given to us the joy and privilege of serving Him.

Therefore, since we have this ministry,

As we have received mercy, we do not lose heart.     2 Corinthians 4:1

  1. We do have a ministry entrusted to us
  2. We have received mercy from the Lord
  3. Thus we conclude 2017 on a strong note

a) We do not lose heart

b) We have no reason to lose heart!

GOD’S COMMAND TO BE LIGHT IN A DARK WORLD

The Lord’s word is obvious. The command to be a light was first given by the Lord Jesus Christ.

You are the light of the world.     Matthew 5:14

Paul picked this up and explained what it means to shine for the Lord.

For it is God who commanded light to shine

In the darkness, who has shone in our hearts

To give light of the knowledge of the glory of God

In the face of Jesus Christ.     2 Corinthians 4:6

  1. Darkness

a) This describes accurately the state of the world at large

b) Darkness and sin are closely related

  1. The commandment to be light

a) This comes from the Lord God Himself

b) He himself has given us light personally

c) Symbolically

i)  Paul was struck blind for a few days

ii) He realised how dark his world was

d) He became deeply committed to being a light that shone in the darkness

  1. To give light to a dark world

a) The true Light of the world is the Lord Jesus Christ   (John 1:7-9

b) Let us be deeply committed to be a light for the Lord

IN THE LIGHT OF THE KNOWLEDGE OF CHRIST

In God’s Divine will and plan, He wants all believers to honour the Son! Our challenge to bear witness effectively is to fully identified with Christ. We are to bear witness to the True Light.
