LOOKING UNTO JESUS

Text: Hebrews 12
30 April 2017

WE HAVE LEARNED MUCH

We have indeed learned much about the Captain of our salvation, from this series of Pulpit Messages in the months of March and April 2017. The challenge now is to apply the lessons that we have learned.

LOOKING UNTO JESUS

This was strongly urged by the writer of Hebrews. Let us ponder what he wrote.

Looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith,

Who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross,

Despising the shame, and has set down at the right hand of

The throne of God.          Hebrews 12:2

  1. Looking unto Jesus

a) This is not a casual look

b) This is a strong and focus gazing upon the Lord Jesus Christ

  1. The author and finisher of our faith

a) He is not just the Captain of our salvation

b) He is also the One who authored our faith

i) He gave us faith

ii) He enables us to commence having faith

c) The finisher of our faith

i) He will complete or perfect the faith He has given us

ii) What He has begun to do, He will complete

  1. The Example of the Lord Jesus Christ

a) We could not have had a better example

b) He fulfilled His life’s calling and ministry with joy

c) The cross He was given had to be endured

d) He despised the shame that was associated with the Cross

e) He looked forward to fulfilling His Father’s will and was duly rewarded

f) He sits at the right hand of the throne of God in heaven

Let us with great determination look up with joy to our Captain of Salvation. Let us be fully identified with Him. May the Lord help us to run our race of faith and life successfully!
