THE LORD WILL STILL CHOOSE ISRAEL

Text: Isaiah 14

CHOSEN TO BE GOD’S PEOPLE

The choosing of Israel to be God’s own special people was clearly declared in the Book of Deuteronomy.

But you are a holy people to the LORD your God;

The LORD your God has chosen you to be a people for Himself,

A special treasure above all the peoples on the face of the earth.          Deuteronomy 7:6

The doctrine of being “Chosen” could not be clearer! How wonderful it is to be so greatly blessed!

A GREAT FALLING AWAY

But Israel had proven unfaithful to the LORD their God! The people had chosen to dwell in sin instead! In Isaiah 5, a series of “Woes” were pronounced against Israel.

  1. Land grabbing Isaiah 6:8
  2. Drunkenness Isaiah 6:11-12
  3. Ignorance (spiritual) Isaiah 6:13
  4. Iniquity Isaiah 6:18-20
  5. Wise in their own eyes Isaiah 6:21

WOULD GOD STILL CHOOSE ISRAEL?

Given the fact that ancient Israel had fallen away so badly, would the LORD God still choose Israel? The answer is a remarkable one!

For the LORD will have mercy on Jacob,

And will still choose Israel, and settle them in their own land.          Isaiah 14:1

This is a truly astonishing prophecy! God would choose Israel all over again, despite its sinfulness!

  1. God’s mercy extended

a) What lay beneath the choosing of Israel by the Lord?

The key word is “Mercy!”

b) It was out of mercy right from the start

c) It continues to be “mercy” even after Israel had broken God’s covenant!

  1. Will still choose Israel!

a) This was God’s way of saying that He was choosing Israel again

b) What about the sins of Israel?

i) They are forgiven

ii) They are washed away

iii) They are remembered no more

What a great and wonderful God we have in the LORD! Let us be truly grateful for the mercy that He has in store! Let us learn how we may appreciate this relationship we have in the Lord our God!
