AN INVITATION TO SEEK THE FACE OF THE LORD

This year’s Pulpit Theme began with a call to seek the Lord’s face. This was a good and timely call to make this New Year one where we seek the Lord more diligently.

  1. Seeking the face of the Lord

a. This is the Lord’s invitation   (Psalm 27:10)

b. This is a glorious invitation

  1. Our response

a. To seek the Lord’s face with all our heart   (Psalm 27:10)

b. To seek Him diligently all the time

CHALLENGES WE FACE ALONG THE WAY

Many are the challenges we face along the way! The Psalmist in writing Psalm 119 identified some problems he encountered as he sought to walk with the Lord.

  1. The problem of sin Psalm 119:9
  1. The problem of straying from the Lord Psalm 119:10
  1. The problem of opposition/ persecution Psalm 119:22

The Psalmist added another problem that hinders many people from seeking the Lord effectively.

Incline my heart to Your testimonies

And not to covetousness

Turn away my eyes from looking at worthless things

And revive me in Your way. Psalm 119:36-37

THE PROBLEM OF COVETOUSNESS

This is a very real and present problem. Let us deal with this problem carefully.

  1. The wrong way of dealing with it

a. Deny the problem of covetousness

b. Refuse to deal with the problem

c. Yielding to the problem

  1. The wise way of dealing with the problem of covetousness

a. Seek the Lord’s help in prayer

b. Turn our eyes away from looking at worthless material things

c. Seek revival from the Lord!

LET US PERSEVERE

Let us persevere with all our heart in our quest of seeking the face of the Lord. Let us seek revival from the Lord!
