MANY ELEMENTS IN PRAYER

There are many elements in prayer. The following may be highlighted: –

  1. Penitential confession

a) This is where we confess our sins humbly

b) This is also where we seek the Lord’s forgiveness

  1. Petitions

a) We bring our needs to the Lord

b) We plead for His grace and mercy

c) We submit all our petitions to the Lord according to His will

  1. Praise

a) This is most appropriate

b) This is how we should respond to God when He hears and answers our prayer

AN EXAMPLE OF HOW WE OUGHT TO PRAISE GOD

Psalm 9 is an example of how we may offer praise to the Lord.

  1. I will praise You, O LORD, with my whole hear

a) True praise must be given with a whole heart

b) Perfunctory words of praise are unworthy of the Lord

  1. I will be glad and rejoice in You

a) There should be gladness

b) There should be great rejoicing

  1. I will sing praise to Your name, O Most High

a) We should remember the name of the Lord

b) His name is indeed “Most High”

  1. I will tell of Your marvelous works

a) Our praise should focus on what God has done

b) Our praise should speak of His marvelous works

A CHALLENGE TO OFFER PRAISE TO GOD IN PRAYER

Let us be challenged to make praise a greater part of our prayers offered to God!

  1. Let us thank God that He remembers the cry of the humble Psalm 9:12
  1. Let us be grateful for the salvation that may be found in Him Psalm 9:14
  1. Let us praise the Lord that He upholds justice in righteousness Psalm 9:8

Let us ever say to the Lord these words:

I will praise You, O LORD, with my whole heart;

I will tell of all Your marvelous works.

I will be glad and rejoice in You;

I will sing praise to Your name, O Most High.   Psalm 9:1-2
