THE SORROW OF REJECTION

THE PROMISE OF LIFE ETERNAL
The promise of eternal life should appeal to the heart, mind and even more the soul! Everything that the gospel writers presented about the Lord Jesus Christ brings such hope and delight! What is there not to like in the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ?
THE SAD REALITY OF REJECTION
The sad reality is that there will be people who will reject the Gospel no matter how carefully it may be presented. The Gospel of John gives us some insight as to why some people reject the Lord Jesus Christ.
And this is the condemnation,
That the light has come into the world,
And men loved darkness rather than light,
Because their deeds were evil.
For everyone practising evil hates the light
And does not come to the light,
Lest his deeds should be exposed.
But he who does the truth comes to the light,
That his deeds may be clearly seen,
That they have been done in God.
John 3:19-21
1. Men loved darkness rather than light
a) This is a sobering statement indeed
b) There will be those who will not come to the light of the Lord
c) They have learned to love darkness more than light
2. Because their deeds were evil
a) Evil can penetrate deep into the heart
b) Evil can cause people to do wicked deeds
c) Many prefer to hide their evil deeds than to confess them and be cleansed
3. Everyone who practises evil hates the light
a) Evil may be compared with darkness
b) Darkness will never come to the light
c) This is the nature of evil
BEING A LIGHT TO THE WORLD
The Lord Jesus declared that He was the light of the world. Through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, we too become lights of the world. Let us continue to shine for the Lord even if there is deepening darkness in the world.
You are the light of the world.
A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden.
Let your light so shine before men,
That they may see your good works
And glorify your Father in heaven.
