THE GIFT OF GOD

JESUS CAME TO OFFER A WONDERFUL GIFT
There were many reasons why the Lord Jesus came to earth. One of the most wonderful reason of all was that He came to bring a gift from God.
If you knew the gift of God,
And who it is who says to you,
‘Give me a drink,’ you would have asked Him,
And He would have given you living water. John 4:10
1. If you knew the gift of God
(a) There is a gift from God
(b) This is knowledge worth searching for
(c) This is knowledge worth having
2. And who it is who says to you
(a) This is a reference to the Lord Jesus Himself
(b) He is to be known
3. What ought we to know about the Lord Jesus?
(a) That He is the Christ, the Messiah sent from God
(b) That He is the Saviour of the world
(c) That He is the One who can give to us the special Gift from God
4. What is this special gift from God
(a) Living water is that gift
(b) What does that mean?
i. Jesus was referring to everlasting life
ii. This is the special gift that God desires to give to all who ask for it
WHO MAY RECEIVE THIS GIFT OF EVERLASTING LIFE?
The plain answer is “everybody!” Yes, anyone who believes in the Lord Jesus as the Saviour will receive this gift of everlasting life.
1. The example of the Samaritan woman
(a) She had 5 bad marriages
(b) The person with whom she was living with was not her husband
(c) Obviously, her lifestyle was not a very righteous one
2. Would God give her everlasting life too?
(a) Yes! Jesus offered to her everlasting life
(b) She went on to share with her friends all that she had learned about the Lord Jesus
(c) Many came to faith in the Lord because she had come to faith in the Lord
RECEIVING THE GIFT OF EVERLASTING LIFE
How wonderful it is to be offered the gift of everlasting life! Our part is to recognise and confess our sins. We then ask the Lord Jesus to be our Saviour and to ask Him to grant everlasting life. The Lord is more than pleased to give us everlasting life!
