THE THREAT OF THE WICKED

Wickedness exists in the world. There is no question about that. As a result, many are fearful.

Flee as a bird to your mountain?

For look! The wicked bend their bow,

They make ready their arrow on the string,

That they may shoot secretly at the upright in heart.

If the foundations are destroyed, what can the righteous do?

Psalm 11:1-3

  1. Supposedly wise advice

a. Flee

b. Fear the wicked and their ways

  1. Reasons

a. The foundations of life and society are being destroyed

b. The righteous do not seem to be able to do anything significant

THE RIGHT UNDERSTANDING

The righteous must hold fast to his faith in the Lord!

The LORD is in His holy temple,

The LORD’s throne is in heaven;

His eyes behold,

His eyelids test the sons of men.

The LORD tests the righteous,

But the wicked and the one who loves violence His soul hates.

Upon the wicked He will rain coals,

Fire and brimstone and a burning wind shall be the portion

Of their cup.

For the LORD is righteous,

He loves righteousness;

His countenance beholds the upright.      Psalm 11:4-7

  1. The wicked

a. God will deal with them

b. He will judge them

c. They will be judged according to their sinful ways

2. The righteous

a. The Lord watches over them

b. He will test them

c. He will behold the upright with favour

Let us hold fast to our knowledge and understanding of the Lord. Let us not yield to fear at any time. Let us put our trust in the firmly!
