THE WORKS OF THE LORD ARE GREAT

REFLECTING ON THE WORKS OF THE LORD

How wonderful it is to be able to reflect on the works of the LORD! This is something we should plan to do always. Psalm 111 is a wonderfully uplifting Psalm that attempts to reflect on “the works of the LORD.”

SIGNIFICANT OBSERVATIONS ABOUT THE WORKS OF GOD

What are some significant observations the Psalmist made concerning the works of the LORD? The following statements are worth pondering over prayerfully. Five things stood out to the Psalmist.

  1. Great

“The works of the LORD are great”             Psalm 111:2

  1. Honourable and glorious

“His work is honourable and glorious”        Psalm 111:3

  1. Wonderful

“He has made His wonderful works to be remembered”      Psalm 111:4

  1. Power

“He has declared to His people the power of His works”     Psalm 111:6

  1. Verity and justice

“The works of His hands are verity and justice”       Psalm 111:7

 WHAT THE WORKS OF THE LORD REVEAL ABOUT GOD

The works of the LORD obviously manifest the Person of God! Let us ponder carefully the following thoughts. Three things stand out.

  1. Righteousness

“His righteousness endures forever”                        Psalm 111:3

  1. Gracious and Compassionate

“The LORD is gracious and full of compassion”      Psalm 111:4

  1. Holy and awesome

“Holy and awesome is His name”     Psalm 111:9

APPROPRIATE RESPONSES

It is right and proper that we make appropriate responses to the LORD. Let us learn from the Psalmist how we ought to respond.

  1. Praise

“Praise the LORD! I will praise the LORD with my whole heart.”   Psalm 111:1

  1. Study the works of the LORD

The works of the LORD are great, studied by all who have pleasure in them.”  Psalm 111:2

  1. Fear the LORD

“The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom.” Psalm 111:10a

  1. Doing the will of God revealed

“A good understanding have all those who do His commandments”    Psalm 111:10b

The works of the LORD are many as we reflect on these past 43 years of ministry at Bethany! Let us rejoice in the Lord greatly! Let us ever seek to praise the LORD forever and ever!
