A SPECIAL PRAYER FOR CHRISTMAS

Text: Ephesians 3
18 December 2016

A COMMON QUESTION

What would you like for Christmas? Children may request for toys. Older ones may ask for electronic devices.

AN UNCOMMON QUESTION

What would you pray for this Christmas? Paul offered two prayers for the Ephesians church in his epistle. Let us consider his second prayer. Perhaps we should consider making this our prayer at Christmas.

  1. Strength in the inner man

That He would grant you,

 According to the riches of His glory,

To be strengthened with might through His Spirit

In the inner man                                              Ephesians 3:16

a) Strengthened with might

b) Through the ministry of the Holy Spirit

c) In the inner man

  1. That Christ may dwell in us

            That Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith;

                                                                                                            Ephesians 3:17a

a) The idea of dwelling with us is deep and profound

b) Paul is not talking about just having faith in the Lord Jesus Christ

c) He is talking about a wonderful relationship with the Lord

i) If Christ were to dwell in your house which room would you give Him?

ii) Would you include Him in all the activities of the home?

iii) Would He be the centre of your home?

iv) Much depends on the kind of faith we have

  1. Rooted and grounded in love

Rooted and grounded in love,

May be able to comprehend with all the saints

What is the width and length and depth and height-

To know the love of Christ which passes knowledge;

That you may be filled with the fullness of God.

                                                                                                Ephesians 3:17-19

a) To know the Lord Jesus at all is to love Him deeply

b) The love for the Lord should be so deep that we never tire of speaking about His love

c) The love of Christ surpasses all knowledge

d) The path to discovering the fullness of God is through knowledge of the love of Christ

Would you consider making this your Christmas prayer?
