GOD’S PROMISE TO KING DAVID
God gave a glorious promise to King David through Nathan the prophet. The focus of this special word of promise was the subject of the Davidic kingdom. The following things may be highlighted:-

1. The Davidic kingdom

a) It will be established forever

b) His throne would last forever 2 Samuel 7:16

2. Two aspects of the Davidic Kingdom

a) The earthly aspect

i) Solomon would reign after David

ii) He would build the Temple

b) There was a Divine-Messianic aspect

i) This was not easily understood

ii) Jesus came to fulfil the Messianic aspect

THE MESSIANIC KINGDOM
It took a lot of teaching by the Lord Jesus Himself to help people understand the Messianic Kingdom.

1. The King

a) He would be from the line of David

b) He would be called “The Son of David”

2. The Kingdom

a) It is sometimes called The Kingdom of God

b) It is also called The Kingdom of heaven

c) It is an eternal kingdom

3. Entrance into the Kingdom of God

a) By faith in response to the invitation of the Lord Jesus

b) By grace we may enter into God’s kingdom

c) By Divine authority we become:-

i) Children of God

ii) Citizens of the heavenly kingdom

APPRECIATING AFRESH THE ADVENT OF THE SON OF DAVID
God sent angels to herald the birth of the Christ-Child, the Son of David! May we be like the Wise Men who recognised Baby Jesus as “The King of the Jews.” This was the equivalent of the title “The Son of David!”
