A PECULIAR TITLE
In tracing the genealogy of the Lord Jesus Christ, Luke added a peculiar title,
The Son of Adam” (Luke 3:38). What could Luke have in mind as he wrote this down?

THE REFERENCE TO ADAM
The first thought we must consider leads us to look at the Genesis account (Genesis 1-3).

1. Similarities

a) A special creation

i) Adam was the first Man born without sin

ii) Jesus would be the Second Adam born without sin

b) Fully human

i) As Adam was fully human

ii) Jesus would be fully human too

2. Differences

a) Adam sinned

i) He sinned through disobedience

ii) Through him all mankind fell and became estranged from God

b) Jesus

i) He would perfectly obey God

ii) Through Him all who believe would have eternal life

A SPECIAL PROMISE OF GOD
Though Adam sinned, God gave a very special promise in these words.

And I will put enmity between you and the woman,
And between your seed and her Seed.
He shall bruise your head,
And you shall bruise His heel. Genesis 3:15

1. God promised that the Serpent would be defeated one day

a) There would come a Seed from the woman

b) He would crush the head of the serpent

c) In turn the serpent would bruise His heel

2. The Seed of the woman

a) That Seed was the Lord Jesus Christ

b) The Seed was “The Son of Adam”

Let us stand in awe of how God kept His word of promise. How wonderful it is to know that the Lord Jesus came in the likeness of human flesh to defeat Satan!
