He Will Save His People From Their Sins

AN ANGEL OF THE LORD
The Christmas narrative is full of mention of angels, the special messengers of God!

1. The angel Gabriel

a) He appeared to Zacharias (Luke 1)

b) He also appeared to Mary (Luke 1)

2. Unnamed angels

a) One appeared to Joseph (Matthew 1)

b) Another appeared to shepherds (Luke 2)

3. A whole host of angels

a) They appeared to the shepherds

b) They sang at the birth of Baby Jesus

THE MESSAGE OF THE ANGEL
The angels of the Lord often carried messages from the Lord.

1. These were message of great importance

2. These were messages that held great significance to faith and life

3. These special appearances were deemed necessary

a) Joseph had a mind to end his engagement to Mary who was found to be pregnant before their marriage

b) An angel had to explain to Joseph why he must proceed as he had planned

A SPECIAL MESSAGE CONCERNING THE LORD JESUS CHRIST
The following things were highlighted to Joseph concerning the Child that Mary was carrying in her womb.

1. The Holy Spirit’s involvement

a) It was the Holy Spirit who enabled Mary to conceive the Baby

b) The Child was a very special Person

2. You shall call Him Jesus

a) The special Baby was to be called “Jesus”

b) He was born for a special purpose. He would be “Immanuel” (God with us)

c) He would come and save His people from their sin

HOW DO WE RELATE TO THE LORD JESUS TODAY?
What a special moment it must have been for Joseph to have an angel speak to him. The angel had spoken to Joseph in a dream! Joseph must do his part.

1. He would have to exercise his faith

2. He would have to determine that this was not just a wild dream

3. He would have to act in obedience to the Lord’s word that came to him.

Is our faith real and active? What does the Lord Jesus mean to us today?
