Text: Colossians 1:9-14

A CHALLENGE TO WALK WORTHY OF THE LORD

The call to walk worthy of the Lord was sounded loud and clear in the epistles of the Apostle Paul. This is one of the texts that highlight the challenge of walking worthy of God.

That you may walk worthy of the Lord,
Fully pleasing Him, being fruitful in every good work
And increasing in the knowledge of God,

Strengthened with all might, according to His glorious power,
For all patience and longsuffering with joy…     Colossians 1:10-11

Paul numbered some of the ways in which we could walk worthy of the Lord.

1. Seek to fully please God

2. Be fruitful in every good work

3. Increase in the knowledge of God

4. Seek to be strengthened with all might

a) This is not mere human strength

b) This is strength that is according to God’s glorious power

5. Practise patience

6. Exercise longsuffering

7. Let there be a spirit of joy

WHY SHOULD WE DESIRE TO WALK WORTHY OF THE LORD?

Paul explains we want to consciously walk worthy of the Lord.

He has delivered us from the power of darkness
And conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love.
                                                                             Colossians 1:13

1. We have been gloriously delivered from the power of darkness

a) We are no longer under the tyranny of the Evil One

b) He has no more power over the redeemed

2. We have been conveyed into the kingdom of the Lord Jesus Christ (He is tenderly called “the Son of His love” in this text).

a) We are gloriously saved

b) We have entered into the Kingdom of God

Let us seek to walk worthy of this great salvation God has blessed us with. Let us seek to bring honour and glory to the Lord always.
