CONFIDENCE IN THE LORD

How confident are we in our faith in God? The Psalmists, the sons of Korah expressed supreme confidence in their faith in God in this Psalm.

God is our refuge and strength,
A very present help in trouble.

Therefore we will not fear,
Even though the earth be removed,
And though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea;

Though its waters roar and be troubled,
Though the mountains shake with its swelling.       Psalm 46:1-3

1. Reasons for great confidence

a) Because God is our Refuge

b) Because God is our Strength

2. Regardless of circumstances in life

a) Regardless of earthquakes

b) Regardless of cataclysmic upheavals

c) Regardless of tsunamis

HOW MAY WE DEVELOP SUCH CONFIDENCE IN GOD?

The Psalmists offer this word of advice to all who wish to cultivate their confidence in God.

Come, behold the works of the LORD,
Who has made desolations in the earth.

He makes wars to cease to the end of the earth;
He breaks the bow and cuts the spear in two;
He burns the chariots in the fire.               Psalm 46:8-9

1. Exhortation to behold the works of the Lord

2. Examples of the works of the Lord

a) He makes wars to cease

b) He destroys mighty armies

A GREAT CHALLENGE TO BE STILL BEFORE GOD

May our hearts stand still and in awe of the Lord as we behold His works!

Be still, and know that I am God,
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth!

The LORD of hosts is with us;
The God of Jacob is our refuge.      Psalm 46:10-11
