TRIBUTE TO A GREAT SERVANT OF GOD

Moses had a great and illustrious ministry as a servant of God for forty years. In the four decades of ministry he accomplished many things for the Lord.

1. He had led Israel out of Egypt

a) God was with Moses throughout

b) He wielded the mighty power of God in a most awesome manner

2. He had led Israel for forty years in the wilderness

a) It must have been a very tiring piece of work

b) Wandering in the barren wilderness

c) Shepherding a rebellious generation

3. Death at 120 years of age

a) His eyes were not dim

b) Nor did his natural vigour diminish

c) There was no prophet like Moses (Deuteronomy 34:10)

A NEW GENERATION

Of necessity, a new generation must arise! And in that new generation, a new set of leaders must arise too!

After the death of Moses, the servant of the LORD,
It came to pass that the LORD spoke to Joshua the son of Nun,
Moses’ assistant, saying,

“Moses My servant is dead. Now therefore, arise,
Go over this Jordan, you and all this people,
To the land which I am giving to them- the children of Israel.
Joshua 1:1-2

1. The LORD spoke to Joshua

a) God continues to speak

b) As He spoke to Moses, so now He addressed Joshua

2. Now therefore arise

a) Lamenting over Moses was correct

b) A full 30 days of mourning was observed

c) But that period must come to an end

d) It was now time to arise to fulfil God’s plans

PRAYING FOR A NEW GENERATION

In time to come the older generation will pass on and a new generation must arise. This is a solemn truth that we must comprehend and accept! Let us pray that God would raise up a new generation of people who would faithfully seek to serve Him!
