THE LORD HAS CALLED ME FROM THE WOMB
Text: Isaiah 49

A PROPHETIC WORD
We have a fascinating prophecy concerning the birth of the Messiah in this text.
The LORD has called Me from the womb;
From the matrix of My mother He has made mention of My name.
Isaiah 49:1
1. The calling of the Messiah
a) This is a reference to the work that He will fulfil for the Lord
b) The Lord Himself had set His Messiah apart right from the start
2. His name would be given by the Lord Himself
a) This is to signify a special relationship
b) The Lord would have a special relationship with the Messiah
A COMPARISON OF TEXTS
Let’s compare this text with the following text. The context features the words of the angel Gabriel to Mary.
And behold, you will conceive in your womb
And bring forth a Son, and shall call His name Jesus. Luke 1:31
1. The angel Gabriel
a) He is a mighty angel sent by the Lord
b) He brings a word to Mary from the Lord
2. The birth of the Messiah
a) This was announced
b) His name was also mentioned
c) The Baby’s name would be called Jesus
d) His name signifies the work that He would do
He would be the Saviour sent by God to save the world.
ANOTHER PROPHETIC WORD
Jeremiah 33:15 features another prophetic word.
In those days and at that time I will cause to grow up to David
A Branch of righteousness… Jeremiah 33:15
Let’s compare this word with a text written by Luke.
He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Highest;
And the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David.
And He will reign over the house of Jacob forever,
And of His kingdom there will be no end. Luke 1:32-33
1. Jeremiah’s prophecy concerned the Son of David
2. Luke wrote that this was fulfilled by the Lord Jesus Christ
a) He will be called the Son of the Highest
b) He will be given the throne of His father David
c) He will have an everlasting kingdom
Let us celebrate Christmas with a deep sense of appreciation of the prophetic word of God!
