Text: Isaiah 46

THE PHYSICAL ACT OF CARRYING A CHILD

The physical act of carrying a baby is a beautiful expression of tender love. All who are good parents would understand the significance of carrying their little ones.

THE SYMBOLIC ACT OF CARRYING

The symbolic concept of carrying was extended and applied to God caring for His people. The following texts bear this truth significantly.

1.With reference to Israel when it became a nation

“Who have been upheld by Me from birth,

Who have been carried from the womb.”      Isaiah 46:3

a) The work of upholding the nation is compared with the act of carrying a child

b) God had upheld and carried Israel since its inception as a nation

2. With reference to Israel in old age

“Even to your old age, I am He,

And even to gray hairs I will carry you

I have made, and I will bear,

Even I will carry, and will deliver you.”    Isaiah 46:4

a) Nations, like people, grow old

b) Nations sometimes grow weaker with the passing of the years

i) More problems arise

ii) More complex difficulties also accompany aged nations

3. God’s promise to His covenant people

a) He will not forsake even when His people grow old

b) He will carry them

c) He will bear them up

d) He will deliver His people from their trials and tribulations

e) God has made this commitment from the very first day He established them as His people

AN EVERLASTING LOVE INDEED

God’s commitment to care for His people is evidence of His eternal love.

1. It is easy enough to care for children

2. Ιt is certainly not easy to care for people who have become old and feeble

3. His promises to always carry and uphold His people is proof positive of His eternal love

Let us appreciate afresh God’s everlasting love for us. Let us seek to have our faith in God and His love refreshed and rejuvenated this Christmas!
