THE VITAL CHARACTERISTIC OF PERSEVERANCE

“You have carefully followed my…perseverance…”   2 Timothy 3:10

1. Definition

a. Perseverance – hupomoné
b. It is patiently bearing with things even under great duress
c. It is the ability to patiently go through all things to the end.

2. Perseverance is what would help to win the day

a. Perseverance is what would keep us going
b. Perseverance is the one of the key features
c. It is persevering through with all aspects of life and ministry

PAUL’S EXAMPLE IN LEARNING AND HAVING PERSEVERANCE

1. Choosing in faith to Persevere despite lack of acceptance   (Acts 9)

a. Paul had a personal faith that sought to persevere
b. He started preaching Christ in the synagogues (Damascus)
c. However, People were sceptical about him
d. The Jews plotted to kill him
e. When he tried to join the disciples, they were afraid of him

2. Continuing in faith to persevere despite suffering   (Acts 16)

a. The suffering that Paul and Silas went through
i. They were falsely accused
ii. Their clothes were torn off
iii. They were beaten with rods
iv. They were imprisoned in the inner prison
v. Their feet were fastened in the stocks
b. Exceptional expression of faith and love
i. At midnight, they were praying and singing hymns
ii. They continued to pray and sing despite their suffering

3. Culminating in faith by persevering to the end

“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.”   2 Timothy 4:7
a. I have fought the good fight.
b. I have finished the race
c. I have kept the faith

THE CHALLENGE TO PERSEVERE AS PAUL DID

1. Faith to persevere even when you are alone

2. Keep persevering despite suffering

3. Determine to persevere to the end
