1. The fear of the LORD is an important truth that must be learnt

2. We may learn from reading the Bible

3. We may learn through the reading of Psalm 34

a. How David learned to fear the LORD
b. How David desired to teach the fear of the LORD

HOW KING DAVID SOUGHT TO LEARN AND TEACH THE FEAR OF THE LORD

1. He learnt through his personal life

a. He remembered a time when He had many fears   (cf. 1 Samuel 21: 10 – 15)
b. He recalled how the LORD delivered Him   (Psalm 34: 4)
c. The fear of the LORD became a personal lesson for him   (Psalm 34: 7)

2. He went through a process of learning

a. This process is shared by others who also fear the LORD   (Psalm 34: 5 – 6)
b. Shared experiences of those who fear the LORD
i. The LORD protects them   (Psalm 34: 7)
ii. The LORD provides for them   (Psalm 34: 9)

3. He taught through practical steps

a. Practising righteousness   (Psalm 34: 13, 14)
b. Practicing humility   (Psalm 34: 18)

4. He shared precious truths that bring deep encouragement

a. The eyes of the LORD are on the righteous   (Psalm 34: 15)
His ears are open to their cry
b. The LORD is near to those who have a broken heart   (Psalm 34: 18)
And saves such as have a contrite spirit
