THE MERCIES OF GOD IS AN AMAZING ATTRIBUTE OF GOD

1. The general mercies of God

a. His general mercies are given and shown to everyone
b. His mercies are on the good and bad
i. He brings rain on both the good and the bad.
ii. The Lord brings up His sun each day and it shines on both the righteous and the unrighteous

2. The specific mercies of God

a. These are only meant for those who know the Lord.
b. These are not meant for the wicked.
c. The Lord’s specific mercies would result in special blessings
i. He will provide for them
ii. He will honour them
iii. He will help them

THE SPECIFIC MERCIES OF THE LORD APPLIED IN A TIMELESS PRINCIPLE OF LIFE

1. It is the principle of fearing the Lord

“And His mercy is on those who fear the Lord from generation to generation.”   Luke 1:50
a. God’s specific mercies are on those who fear Him.
b. He is to be highly regarded and revered.
c. This will apply from one generation to the next generation.

2. It is humbling ourselves before the Lord.

“And exalted the lowly…”   Luke 1:52
a. It applies to the young who are humble
b. It applies to the old who are humble

THE SPECIFIC MERCIES OF GOD BESTOWED THROUGH THE PERSON OF THE LORD JESUS

1. The specific mercies of the Lord come through the person of the Lord Jesus

2. The person of Christ at the centre of salvation

a. It is through faith in the Lord Jesus that we will have mercy and salvation.
b. He came to the world at Christmas so that God can be with us

3. The person of Christ at the centre of spiritual blessings

a. This is what Christmas is all about.
b. It is about God’s specific mercies on those who would believe in Christ.
c. Through Him, all nations of the earth would be blessed   (Luke 1:55)
d. He will bring about spiritual blessings to the whole world

4. This is something that we can rejoice in and give thanks for.

PERSONAL RESPONSES TO THE SPECIFIC MERCIES OF GOD

1. Centring our life on the Lord Jesus.

2. Fearing the Lord

3. Humbling ourselves before the Lord.

4. Rejoicing in the Lord for His mercies
