The Lord is Good and His Mercy Endures Forever

THE PRESENT DIRE CONDITIONS

1. Great Troubles

a. War situation   (Jeremiah 33:4)
b. Destruction of the city   (Jeremiah 33:4)
c. Many people dead   (Jeremiah 33:5)
d. Desolation   (Jeremiah 33:10)
e. City is empty   (Jeremiah 33:10)

2. A hopeless situation

a. Nothing can be changed
b. The Lord is judging them for their sins
c. Jeremiah weeps for the people

NO MATTER WHAT THE PRESENT MAY LOOK LIKE, THERE IS ALWAYS A FUTURE

1. The content of the future

a. The Lord promised His goodness and mercy
“Praise the Lord of hosts, For the Lord is good, For His mercy endures forever ”—“   Jeremiah 33:11
b. Physical blessings
i. The Lord had promised that He would not bring about a complete end of Israel…of Jerusalem   (Jeremiah 5:10)
ii. He will cause the captives of Israel and Judah to return   (Jeremiah 33:7, 11)
iii. Rebuilding of the city   (Jeremiah 33:7)
iv. There would be people in the streets again   (Jeremiah 33:10, 11)
b. Spiritual blessings
i. The Lord will answer our prayers
“Call to Me, and I will answer you,”   Jeremiah 33:3
ii. He will show unfathomable great and mighty things
“And show you great and mighty things, which you do not know.”   Jeremiah 33:3
iii. The Lord will bring spiritual healing
“Behold, I will bring it health and healing; I will heal them and reveal to them the abundance of peace and truth.”   Jeremiah 33:6
iv. The Lord will cleanse
“I will cleanse them from all their iniquity by which they have sinned against Me, and I will pardon all their iniquities by which they have sinned and by which they have transgressed against Me.”   Jeremiah 33:8
v. The Lord’s goodness will be made known to others
“Then it shall be to Me a name of joy, a praise, and an honor before all nations of the earth, who shall hear all the good that I do to them; they shall fear and tremble for all the goodness and all the prosperity that I provide for it.”   Jeremiah 33:9

a. The reality of God
i. His promise
ii. His power
iii. His presence
b. Hope in the future
i. Believe in the God of the future
ii. Hold fast to the promise of the future
iii. Keep growing our hope in the future

A CHORUS TO PRAISE TO THE LORD FOR HIS GOODNESS AND MERCY

1. A similar chorus to Psalm 100

“For the Lord is good; His mercy is everlasting, and His truth endures to all generations.”   Psalm 100:5

2. A restoration of the voice of joy

“The voice of joy and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom and the voice of the bride, the voice of those who will say:”   Jeremiah 33:11

3. Praise to the Lord again

“Praise the Lord of hosts, for the Lord is good, for His mercy endures forever”—“   Jeremiah 33:11

4. A commitment to make the sacrifice of praise in the house of the Lord

“And of those who will bring the sacrifice of praise into the house of the Lord. For I will cause the captives of the land to return as at the first,’ says the Lord.”   Jeremiah 33:11
