THE PROBLEM OF SIN THAT PLAGUES MANKIND

1. The problem of sin Isaiah 1:2-4

a. Rebellion against God
b. Evil doing
c. Corruption
d. Forsaking the Lord
e. Provoking the Lord to anger
f. Turning away backward from the Lord

2. The consequences of sin Isaiah 8:22, Isaiah 9:1

a. Trouble
b. Darkness
c. Gloom of anguish
d. Distress

THE PROMISE THAT GOD GIVES

1. The gloom will not remain Isaiah 9:1

“Nevertheless the gloom will not be upon her who is distressed”

2. God will give a great light Isaiah 9:2

“The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; those who dwelt in the land of the shadow of death, upon them a light has shined.”

3. He will increase our joy Isaiah 9:3

“You have multiplied the nation and increased its joy; they rejoice before You according to the joy of harvest, as men rejoice when they divide the spoil.”

4. He will deliver us Isaiah 9:4

“For You have broken the yoke of his burden and the staff of his shoulder, the rod of his oppressor, as in the day of Midian.”

5. He will grant us peace Isaiah 9:5

“For every warrior’s sandal from the noisy battle, and garments rolled in blood, will be used for burning and fuel of fire.”

THE PROMISE OF GOD FULFILLED IN THE PERSON OF CHRIST

1. The birth of Christ Isaiah 9:6

“For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given; and the government will be upon His shoulder.”

2. The Person that Christ is Isaiah 9:6

a. Wonderful
b. Counsellor
c. Mighty God
d. Everlasting Father

3. The glorious Kingdom that Christ will bring us into
