Sunday Message for the Bilingual Brethren - 1 August 2021 : “But without faith it is impossible to please God”

Text: Hebrews 11:5-6
1 August 2021

INTRODUCTION

1. Growing old is not easy

a. The body becomes frail
b. The mind may not be as sharp as it used to be

2. Discouragement can set in

a. Negative thoughts and feelings can come
b. One can be led to feel “useless”, or think that life is no longer meaningful

3. What the Scriptures teach us

a. What matters to God
i. Not our age or background
ii. But faith!
b. Our lives can be pleasing to God, when we have faith in Him

THE IMPORTANCE OF FAITH

“But without faith it is impossible to please Him”   Hebrews 11:6

1. It is by faith that we please God

2. There is no way that we are able to please God outside of faith

THE EXAMPLE OF ENOCH

1. He had the testimony that he pleased God   (Hebrews 11:5)

2. A background of his life   (Cf. Genesis 5:18-24)

a. Enoch expressed his faith in a walk with God
i. Relationship with God
ii. Communion with God
iii. Following after God
b. There was a commencement of a walk with God
i. It was recorded that he began only at 65 years old
ii. After he became a father
c. There was also a continuation of his walk with God – for the next 300 years
d. Finally, there was a conclusion of Enoch’s walk with God on earth
i. He concluded well
ii. He did not see death (he was not), for God took him

THE CHALLENGE TO HAVE FAITH

“…for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.”   Hebrews 11:6

1. Come to God

2. Believe in Him

3. Seek after Him diligently

4. God will reward
