“THE LORD HAS CALLED ME FROM THE WOMB”

 

(I) THE CALLING OF THE LORD

People who heard the Call and answered it.

1. Abraham (Genesis 12)

3. Isaiah (Isaiah 6)

4. The Lord Jesus (Hebrews 10)

(II) UNDERSTANDING OF JESUS CONCERNING THE CALL OF GOD

1. Understanding of the Call of the Lord (Isaiah 49:1)

a) To bring Jacob back to God (Isaiah 49:5)

b) To gather Israel (Isaiah 49:5)

c) A light to the Gentiles (Isaiah 49:6)

d) To bring salvation (Isaiah 49:6)

e) To usher in a new covenant (Isaiah 49:8)

2. Expression of this understanding

a) Determined by God since inception (Isaiah 49:1)

b) Destined to be God’s Servant (Isaiah 42:1; 49:5)


3. Appreciating the deep wisdom of God

a) Making the mouth like a sharp sword (Isaiah 49:2)

i) Skilled in speaking

ii) Ability to defend well

b) The hidden years

i) In the shadow of God’s hand (Isaiah 49:2)

ii) Making of a polished shaft (Isaiah 49:2)

iii) Hidden like arrows in a quiver (Isaiah 49:2)
