"I will camp around My house"

SPECIAL DIVINE PROTECTION

Israel had many powerful enemies. Tyre and Sidon were powerful enemies. The Philistines were “traditional enemies”. How would Israel survive? The LORD promised Divine protection.

“I will camp around My house
Because of the army,
Because of him who passes by and him who returns.
No more shall an oppressor pass through them,
For now I have seen with My eyes.”
Zechariah 9:8

1. “I will camp around My house”

a) This was a personal promise from the LORD.
b) God’s people were described as “His house”.
c) The idea of encamping was well-captured in Psalm 34:7.

2. “The army”

a) There was always the threat of an alien army.
b) They may seem to merely “pass by”.
c) But God knew that these enemies were merely spying out the land.
d) They would return with powerful armies and threaten to overwhelm Israel.

3. “No more shall an oppressor pass through them”

a) God’s special promise was given here.
b) Israel would not be oppressed again.
c) He would make sure that the enemies would not be able to attack Israel again.

4. “For now I have seen with My eyes”

a) God will watch over His house most carefully.
b) He will personally care for His people with His eyes.
c) God will fulfil what He has promised (Psalm 34:15-16).
