"Marvelous in the eyes of the remnant"

Text: Zechariah 8:6

THE WORD OF THE LORD SEEMED INCREDIBLE

The Lord would send His faithful prophets who would preach and proclaim mighty promises. The re-population of Jerusalem was one such prophetic word. But not all found this word easy to believe in.

“Thus says the LORD of hosts:
‘If it is marvelous in the eyes of the remnant of this people in these days,
Will it also be marvelous in My eyes?’
Says the LORD of hosts.”
Zechariah 8:6

1. “The remnant of this people”

a) These had been specially preserved.
b) The Lord had protected them from harm and danger.
c) They would form the bulk of the people who would return to Zion.

2. “If it is marvelous in the eyes of the remnant of this people in these days”

a) Zechariah was addressing the remnant who had returned.
b) But not all had a great faith in what God had said.
i) They had problems with the Temple project.
ii) They had problems re-adjusting life in Jerusalem.
c) This prophecy was received skeptically.
d) Politely, the word was “marvelous;” But “incredulous” was meant.

3. “Will it also be marvelous in My eyes, says the LORD of hosts”

a) The Lord’s viewpoint was not the same as that of the remnant.
b) The rebuilding of Zion would come to pass! It was not an impossible feat to God.
