"Walk to and fro throughout the earth"

Text: Zechariah 6:7

SENDING POWERFUL ANGELS FOR MINISTRY

The activities of angels may be invisible but they are nonetheless very real and significant.

“‘The one with the black horses is going to the north country,
the white are going after them,
and the dappled are going toward the south country.’
Then the strong steeds went out, eager to go,
that they might walk to and fro throughout the earth.
And He said, ‘Go, walk to and fro throughout the earth.’
So they walked to and fro throughout the earth.
And He called to me, and spoke to me, saying,
‘See, those who go toward the north country
have given rest to My Spirit in the north country.'”
Zechariah 6:6-8

1. The angels of God

a) They are given “strong steeds” (horses) to signify speed and strength.
b) The simple reference to the “north” and “south” would cover “the earth”.
i) The north was used frequently to describe the enemies that attacked Israel.
ii) The south would be a reference to Israel and its surroundings.

2. God’s command

a) The angels were commanded to patrol the earth.
b) They went out to fulfil the commandment of the LORD.

3. A word to Zechariah

a) The angels had fulfilled what God had sent them to do.
b) The north was no longer a threat to Israel.
c) The angels of the LORD had done the job they were assigned to do.
God’s Spirit was “at rest”.

THE ANGELS OF GOD IN PSALM 103

1. They were described as beings “who excel in strength” (Psalm 103:20).

2. They “do His word, heeding the voice of His word” (Psalm 103:20).
