Zechariah
"It is a basket that is going forth"
Text: Zechariah 5:6
THE SEVENTH VISION
Zechariah was given vision after vision for his instruction and edification. This was now the seventh vision revealed.
“Then the angel who talked with me came out and said to me,
‘Lift your eyes now, and see what this is that goes forth.’
So I asked, ‘What is it?’ And he said, ‘It is a basket that is going forth.’
He also said, ‘This is their resemblance throughout the earth.'”
Zechariah 5:5-7
1. The teaching angel who talked with Zechariah
a) He urged Zechariah to lift up his eyes to carefully see.
b) It was not a static object.
c) It was “going forth”.
2. Zechariah’s response
a) He saw but did not fully comprehend.
b) He asked what seemed obvious to the teaching angel.
c) “What is it?”
3. The reply of the teaching angel
a) It is a basket.
b) But it was not stationary but was going forth.
4. Additional statement
a) The basket was a common measuring instrument.
b) It was used to measure dry goods.
c) But what did it represent?
This was something that Zechariah sought to know in greater detail!
