"Clothed with filthy garments"

Text: Zechariah 3:3

THE GARMENTS OF THE HIGH PRIEST

The garments of the High Priest were personally designed by the LORD Himself (Exodus 28). A quick summary:

1. The priestly garments had deep symbolic significance.

2. They were also designed “for glory and for beauty” (Exodus 28:2).

a) The glory of the LORD must be reflected.
b) The beauty of His holiness must be well-regarded.

3. They signified the ministry of the high priestly office

a) It is sacred and holy.
b) The high priest must ever be sanctified consciously.

THE VISION OF THE FILTHY GARMENTS OF JOSHUA THE HIGH PRIEST

The vision that was shown to Joshua depicted a high priest who donned filthy robes.

“Now Joshua was clothed with filthy garments,
and was standing before the Angel.”
Zechariah 3:3

1. “Now Joshua was clothed with filthy garments”

a) This was a fact.
b) Joshua’s high priestly garments were “filthy”.
c) This was what Satan pointed out.
d) Joshua was unfit to minister as the high priest.

2. “And was standing before the Angel”

a) Joshua must have realised that he was unfit and unable to minister as the High Priest before the LORD.

b) But still he stood before the Angel of the LORD.
i) The Angel of the LORD was his advocate.
ii) He could cleanse him.
iii) He could show great mercy and grace.
c) Joshua stood and waited for the Angel of the LORD to respond.

His ministry could end if the Angel of the LORD judged against him.
