"This is My people"

Text: Zechariah 13:9

FEARFUL CIRCUMSTANCES

Terrible circumstances in the world was prophesied. Just as the Good Shepherd can be slain though He was guiltless, so wickedness would always rear its ugly head!

“‘And it shall come to pass in all the land,’
Says the LORD,
‘That two-thirds in it shall be cut off and die,
But one-third shall be left in it:
I will bring the one-third through the fire,
Will refine them as silver is refined,
And test them as gold is tested.
They will call on My name,
And I will answer them.
I will say, ‘This is My people’;
And each one will say, ‘The LORD is my God.'”
Zechariah 13:8-9

1. “It shall come to pass in all the land”

a) This was a special prophecy.
b) There would be war and persecution.
c) A remnant would survive (one third shall be left in it).

2. Hope amidst great suffering

a) God will preserve the remnant.
He will see them through harsh circumstances.
b) The persecution is to be seen as a fire.
i) Fire will only refine the silver and the gold.
ii) Fire cannot destroy these precious metals.
c) The true remnant believers will cry out to God:
i) They will call on God’s name.
ii) He will answer their prayers.
iii) He will own them as “My people”.

In grateful response the faithful remnant will say, “The LORD is my God.”
