Day 134

"The unclean spirit to depart from the land"

Text: Zechariah 13:2

THE PROBLEM OF IDOLATRY

This was a major sin problem that needed to be addressed fully.

“‘It shall be in that day,’ says the LORD of hosts,
‘that I will cut off the names of the idols from the land,
and they shall no longer be remembered.
I will also cause the prophets and the unclean spirit to depart from the land.'”
Zechariah 13:2

1. “The LORD of hosts”

a) He would deal with this problem of idolatry personally.
b) He would deal with idolatry distinctively.
c) The following would not be enough:
i) Confessing of sin.
ii) Cleansing of sin sought and given.

2. Decisive actions from the LORD

a) Cutting off all idolatrous practices.
i) All the names of the idols would be cut off (erased).

ii) The names of the idols would not be remembered.

b) Causing false prophets to depart from the land.
i) These were the ones who brought in idolatry.
ii) They had not been dealt with effectively before.
iii) God would banish them from the land of Judah and Jerusalem.
c) Casting out of the unclean spirit from the land.
i) There was obvious demonic presence in the land.
ii) They deceived the false prophets and the people of the land.
iii) They introduced all kinds of unclean and unholy practices.

These actions of the LORD would ensure that His redemptive work would not be in vain.
