"I will also bring them back"

Text: Zechariah 10:10

SCATTERING OF PEOPLE

Every country faces the problem of how to woo their citizens to come back home. Many flee their homeland for different reasons. Some of the common reasons are:

1. War in the country.

2. Displacement because of war.

3. Diaspora caused by the conquerors.

GATHERING OF PEOPLE

It is not difficult to scatter people. But it is very challenging to regather people.

“I will also bring them back from the land of Egypt,
And gather them from Assyria.
I will bring them into the land of Gilead and Lebanon,
Until no more room is found for them.”
Zechariah 10:10

1. “I will also bring them back from the land of Egypt”

a) Egypt was not very far away from Israel.
b) This country was also far richer than Israel.
c) People who are successful in Egypt would not find it easy to give up their life in Egypt to return to a poor country like Israel.

2. “And gather them from Assyria”

a) Assyria was also known for its wealth and power.
b) All who have found success in Assyria would not be drawn easily to return to Israel.

3. “I will bring them into the land of Gilead and Lebanon”

a) God Himself would undertake to do this task of regathering the people of Israel.
b) He even named the places where He would settle them (Gilead and Lebanon).
c) In comparison, the two local regions cannot be compared to Egypt and Assyria.

4. “Until no more room is found for them”

This was an amazing word of promise and prophecy from the LORD God of Israel. People will return in droves. There would be so many who would return that there would be no room for all the returnees!
