"Ask the LORD for rain"
Text: Zechariah 10:1
A STRONG RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD
There is every reason to cultivate a strong relationship with God! One of the expressions of a strong relationship with the Lord is found in prayer.
“Ask the LORD for rain
In the time of the latter rain.
The LORD will make flashing clouds;
He will give them showers of rain,
Grass in the field for everyone.”
Zechariah 10:1
1. “Ask the LORD for rain in the time of the latter rain”
a) The context is that of a farmer who needs rain for his crops to do well.
b) He needs two sets of rain.
i) The former (early) rain
This is seasonal rain that comes in Autumn.
ii) The latter rain
This is also seasonal rain that comes in Spring.
c) Both sets of rains are essential to having a good harvest.
d) Faith must be exercised in seeking God for His blessing of rain.
2. “The LORD will make flashing clouds; He will give them showers of rain”
a) It is the LORD who determines the weather.
b) He will form the flashing clouds.
These are storm clouds. Flashing refers to lightning.
3. “He will give them showers of rain”
a) Good rain is necessary for the crops to grow well.
b) Drought would be very destructive.
4. “Grass in the field for everyone”
a) The rain would nourish even the humble grass.
b) Everyone would benefit as the Lord hears and answers prayer.
