"Proclaim, saying, 'Thus says the LORD'"

Text: Zechariah 1:14

THE PROPHETS OF THE LORD

Zechariah and Haggai were mentioned in the book of Ezra as prophets of God who ministered together (Ezra 5:1).

THE MESSAGE OF ZECHARIAH

The teaching angel instructed Zechariah with reference to his ministry.

“So the angel who spoke with me said to me,
‘Proclaim, saying, “Thus says the LORD of hosts:
‘I am zealous for Jerusalem
And for Zion with great zeal.'”‘”
Zechariah 1:14

1. “So the angel who spoke with me said to me”

a) This angel was assigned to guide Zechariah.
b) He would be given a message from the LORD.
c) That word would then be given to Zechariah.

2. “Proclaim”

a) Zechariah would have a number of tasks as a prophet of God.
b) One of those tasks was that of proclamation of a message from God.

3. “Thus says the LORD of hosts”

a) The source of his message was from the LORD of hosts.
b) The channels were as follows:
i) Through the Angel of the LORD.
ii) Through the teaching angel.

4. “I am zealous for Jerusalem and for Zion with great zeal”

a) God was no longer angry with Jerusalem.
(Jerusalem was the capital and represented the cities of Judah.)
b) He declared that He was zealous for Jerusalem and Zion with great zeal.

He had not forgotten Zion, which represented the place of worship that God had chosen for Himself (2 Chronicles 7:12,15).
