Day 12

"The LORD has sent to walk to and fro"

Text: Zechariah 1:10

THE ANSWER THAT WAS GIVEN

The teaching angel did not personally give the answer to Zechariah. In this vision, Zechariah was able to interact with the people he saw.

“And the man who stood among the myrtle trees
answered and said,
‘These are the ones whom the LORD has sent
to walk to and fro throughout the earth.'”
Zechariah 1:10

1. “And the man who stood among the myrtle trees answered and said”

a) This was not the accompanying teaching angel.
b) He must have introduced Zechariah to the leader of the group of horsemen.
c) A number of things may be noted:
i) He was described as riding (Zechariah 1:8).
ii) The horse he was sitting on stood among the myrtle trees.
iii) This person answered Zechariah.

2. “These are the ones whom the LORD has sent to walk to and fro throughout the earth”

a) “The LORD”
i) The teaching angel may be addressed as “lord” (equivalent to “Sir”).
ii) But there is only one LORD.
iii) This was the name that God said He would use with reference to His covenant-people Israel (Exodus 6:2-3).
b) “The LORD has sent”
i) In His capacity as the LORD God.
ii) He has the authority and power to send.
c) “These are the ones… sent to walk to and fro throughout the earth”
i) These were powerful angelic beings.
ii) They were sent by the LORD to patrol the earth.
iii) Angels have always been portrayed as servants of God (Psalm 91:11).
