"Who gave Himself for us..."

Text: Titus 2:14

NOT TAKING OUR SALVATION FOR GRANTED

Many of us have taken our salvation for granted, if we are honest with ourselves. The apostle Paul did not and he shared with us how we may appreciate our salvation deeply.

“Who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us
from every lawless deed and purify for Himself His
own special people, zealous for good works.”
Titus 2:14

1. “Who gave Himself for us”

a) This truth made such an impact on Paul.
b) He wrote about this in Romans.
i) Scarcely would a person die for a righteous man.
ii) But Christ does for the ungodly.
iii) This truth was once again highlighted in this word to Titus.

2. What were some reasons why Christ died for the ungodly?

a) “That He might redeem us”
i) Without laying His life down for sinners there would be no redemption.
ii) Through Christ’s sacrifice we are wonderfully redeemed.
b) “Redeem us from every lawless deed”
i) How many sins have we committed against the Lord?
ii) Way too many!
iii) Yet He gave His life for us that we may be redeemed fully.
c) “And purify for Himself His own special people”
i) We have been cleansed from our sins.
ii) He has purified us.
iii) He regards us as His own special people.
iv) What a wonderful Redeemer we have in the Lord Jesus Christ.
d) “Zealous for good works”
i) The truly redeemed desires to serve the Lord.
ii) He is zealous to do good works.
iii) Zeal to do good works is an evidence of true redemption.
