"If Christ is in you..."

Text: Romans 8:10

SALVATION EXPLAINED IN MANY WAYS

The doctrine of salvation can be explained in many different ways. Let us look at two ways we can look at our salvation in Christ.

1. Justification

The focus is on our being declared righteous by God through faith in Christ!

2. Redemption

The focus is on our being restored to God in forgiveness. We are bought with the highest price- the blood of Christ! Our sins are forgiven fully and we are given the adoption of sons!

SALVATION EXPLAINED IN YET ANOTHER WAY

The doctrine of salvation is too rich to be restricted to just a couple of expressions. Paul went on to describe salvation in another powerful way.

“And if Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin,
but the Spirit is life because of righteousness.”
Romans 8:10

1. If Christ is in you

a) This phrase must be understood symbolically.
b) The Presence of Christ is represented by the Spirit of God indwelling us.
c) The Actual Presence of Christ
i) He is in heaven.
ii) He plays the role of High Priest (Cf. Hebrews 2-10).
iii) He is waiting to return to earth for His saints (Cf. Book of Revelation).

2. The Spirit is life because of righteousness

a) The Spirit is the One who gives life.
b) The righteousness spoken of here is the Imputed Righteousness given to us through the death of the Lord Jesus Christ.
c) The body though dead because of sin is imbued with new life in and through the work of the Spirit of God (sent by the Lord Jesus Christ Cf. John 14-16).
