"Present yourselves to God as being alive from the dead..."

Text: Romans 6:13

THE BATTLE AGAINST SIN

Sin will ever wage war against the human soul. The very nature of sin is one of seeking to reign. We need to take note of the warlike nature of sin and be forearmed.

THE VICTORY OVER SIN- IN THEOLOGICAL TERMS

There is victory over sin! In fact, it must be said that Christ has already won the battle for us.

1. He has dealt with the penalty of sin.

2. He has broken the power of sin.

3. He has provided an alternative to sin.

THE VICTORY OVER SIN- IN PRACTICAL TERMS

Let us consider how we may have victory over sin in practical terms. The first part has already been commented upon (Romans 6:13a). The second part must now be considered.

“But present yourselves to God as being alive from the dead,
and your members as instruments of righteousness to God.”
Romans 6:13b

1. A reminder: Never invite sin to reign in our life.

2. A new challenge

a) To present ourselves to God
i) As being alive to God.
ii) As people who have been resurrected from the dead.
b) To present our members as instruments of righteousness to God. (Paul offers a clear suggestion in Philippians 4:6-9)
i) The mind must choose to dwell on good and noble thoughts.
ii) There must be careful practice of good and noble deeds.
iii) The spirit must engage in earnest prayer.

God will do His part in guarding our hearts and minds through Christ Jesus!
