"Death no longer has dominion..."

Text: Romans 6:9

FEW THINGS ARE MORE TERRIFYING THAN DEATH

Death seems so terrifying. It seems so terminal. Nothing appears to have the power to halt its assertions- until Christ Jesus came to our rescue.

FEAR OF DEATH DISMISSED

How wonderful it is to be able to live a fear-free life, especially with reference to the fear of death! That death can have a crippling effect is well-portrayed in the following text.

“And release those who through fear of death
were all their lifetime subject to bondage.”
Hebrews 2:15

Fear can cause the individual to be in bondage- for a lifetime! Mercifully, Christ came to destroy the power of death over mankind.

BREAKING THE POWER OF DEATH

Christ did not only break the power of sin, He also broke the power of death.

“Knowing that Christ, having been raised from the dead,
dies no more. Death has no longer dominion over Him.”
Romans 6:9

1. Vital knowledge

a) That Christ had been raised from the dead.
b) That Christ, having died once, “dies no more”.

2. Death’s dominion broken

a) The strangle-hold of death over mankind is demolished.
b) Death could not keep its prey- and Jesus was that prey!
c) Christ Jesus has broken the power of death on our behalf.

3. Our identification with Christ through faith

a) Inasmuch as death has no dominion over Christ, neither does death have dominion over all genuine believers.
b) Inasmuch as Christ has conquered death and dismissed its dominion, so all believers may live triumphantly for the Lord!

Let us be challenged to blend fact and faith all the time!
