"We have access by faith into this grace..."

Text: Romans 5:2

WHERE ACCESS TO GOD WAS HINDERED SEVERELY

A number of texts in the Old Testament highlights the idea of how sin separates man from God.

1. Where God hid His face from man

“For the iniquity of his covetousness
I was angry and struck him;
I hid and was angry,
And he went on backsliding in the way of his heart.”
Isaiah 57:17

2. Where prayers went unanswered

“But your iniquities have separated you from your God;
And your sins have hidden His face from you,
So that He will not hear.
For your hands are defiled with blood,
And your fingers with iniquity;
Your lips have spoken lies,
Your tongue has muttered perversity.”
Isaiah 59:2-3

ACCESS MADE POSSIBLE THROUGH CHRIST

How could man ever obtain free and unhindered access to God? The following text offers crucial enlightenment.

“Through whom also we have access by faith into this grace
in which we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.”
Romans 5:2

1. Through Christ’s death we have redemption.

2. Through faith in Christ we have justification.

3. Through justification by faith we have peace with God.

4. Through faith in Christ we have full access to God.

a) By faith we have this privilege to stand before God as redeemed and justified saints.
b) The access we have to God is well described as “grace”.

APPROPRIATE RESPONSE

Let us pause and ask ourselves what kind of appropriate response should be made? Paul suggests two closely allied thoughts. There should be a powerful sense of rejoicing! There should also be a great sense of hope in our heart!
