"To demonstrate His righteousness..."

Text: Romans 3:25

GOD’S PLAN OF REDEMPTION DEMONSTRATE HIS RIGHTEOUSNESS

God’s plan of salvation has many profound aspects. One of them is that His righteousness is wonderfully displayed. Let’s read again this glorious text.

“Whom God set forth as a propitiation by His blood,
through faith, to demonstrate His righteousness,
because in His forbearance God had passed over
the sins that were previously committed.”
Romans 3:25

Let us take time to appreciate Paul’s teaching on the subject of God’s righteousness.

1. The attributes of God

God has many attributes. His eternality, His supreme power, His infinite wisdom etc… may be described as attributes.

2. Righteousness is also an essential attribute of a Moral God

God being a Moral being also has this attribute of absolute righteousness.

a) His laws reveal His righteousness.
b) Man’s sinfulness highlights the righteousness of God (Romans 3:5).

3. The Righteousness of God revealed in the past

a) God’s righteousness is well-expressed in His forbearance with man’s sins.
b) God has dealt with man’s sins most kindly and compassionately.
c) He has “passed over” man’s sins, time and again, instead of meting out instantaneous judgment.

4. The righteousness of God in the death of Christ

a) The sinless Son of God has to die on behalf of sinful man.
b) It would require nothing less than the death of Christ as the Sinless and Perfect Lamb of God to bring about man’s redemption.
c) God’s righteousness must be satisfied, and that is possible only through Christ’s perfect fulfillment of the plan of redemption.

The righteousness of God is a truly profound doctrine that humbles sinful man!
