"Whom God set forth as a propitiation by His blood..."

Text: Romans 3:25

SEEING REDEMPTION FROM GOD’S POINT OF VIEW

God’s perspective of the plan of redemption is best! The reasons are obvious:-

1. It is God who is the Offended Party.

2. It is God who can and must forgive.

3. It is God who justifies.

4. Only God knows how to plan and effect His program of redemption.

THE VITAL WORK OF CHRIST

Paul underscored the importance of seeing things from God’s perspective, especially with reference to redemption.

“Being justified freely by His grace through the redemption
that is in Christ Jesus, whom God set forth as a propitiation
by His blood, through faith, to demonstrate His righteousness,
because in His forbearance God has passed over the sins
that were previously committed.”
Romans 3:24-25

1. Whom God set forth

God is the One who determines who is worthy enough to effect His plan of salvation! Could He send one of His mighty angels? No one was worthy, except the Lord Jesus Christ!

2. As a propitiation by His blood

a) By His blood

What was required in God’s plan of redemption? It would require nothing less than the shedding of the blood of Jesus!

b) What is propitiation?

This word involves the idea of the need to appease God. His Holy Being is deeply offended by the sins of mankind!

i) Appeasement of God

God’s laws had been violated by man! All mankind had sinned grievously against the Lord! He needs to be appeased!

ii) Only Christ can bring about appeasement

Man may try, but he will never be able to appease God, by his “works”. Only the Divine Christ Jesus can bring about propitiation- by His blood!
